Adult Leaders
The scouters of Troop 8 are the bunch of mentors and outdoor crazies who are willing to subject themselves to rain, snow, mosquitos, storms, more rain... all to help the youth leaders put together a great outdoor program for all the scouts. Scouters range from young Troop 8 alumni to members of the parish and community to parents who enjoy being outdoors with kids. They're screened by us, and trained by the BSA, the St. Thomas parish program, and the university's Outdoor Adventure program in youth protection, wilderness first aid, and outdoor leadership skills.
Bob Geier is a long-time professional educator, having taught high school science and math, serving as a school administrator, state policy director, and now working at UM's School of Education. Trained by the National Outdoor Leadership School, he's been working with the St. Thomas scouting programs for almost 20 years on four continents and 15 states/provinces.
Colin has been with Troop 8 since he was a sixth grader, participating in several venture expeditions and earning his Eagle Scout award. He recently graduated from the University of MIchigan with a B.S. in physics. Colin is currently working both as a research assistant doing solar cell research, and as a research assistant for a middle school science curriculum development project in the School of Education.
