Canoeing is fun! Especially in piranha infested waters... but unfortunately that would require a lot of work and first aid. So we get to do the next best thing! Canoeing on the Huron River! We will be canoeing at Argo pond. It is a gentle section where the the water is almost still, meaning it is great for beginners learning how to canoe. We will be learning the basic canoeing strokes so that everyone can get good enough to go rafting at South Bend. Everyone should come so that they can become a boss at canoeing. This is a Webelos Welcome event, so all you soon-to-be-awesome Troop 8 scouts can come.
Note the early start time: 5:00pm! In the past we have started at 5:30pm, but find this leaves us little time to actually go canoeing. If you can't make it until 5:30pm, that's OK. By all means, talk to the trip leaders or adult field leader if you're having trouble finding a ride to see if we can get you one.
We canoe in water, therefore you will get wet. Dress appropriately for the weather! Non-cotton clothing is strongly preferred! Cotton is bad - when it gets wet, it will make you cold. Wool, nylon, and fleece don't have this problem. You will want good, secure water footwear. Old sneakers, water shoes, strap-on sandals are all good choices. Flip flops are guaranteed to fall off your feet the first time you step in water, never to be seen again.
Remember, you must come to all the flatwater meetings OR the flatwater day trip in order to come on the moving water trips in June!
