Parent Outing: Allegheny Backpacking Weekend
Unfortunately we must cancel this trip. We felt like in the time remaining before the trip we would not be able to safely plan and run the trip. We are sorry for the inconvenience, and hope to run this next year.
This will be the first time we have ever run a parent only trip. The idea of this trip is to bring parents on a troop outing, so that they can understand what their sons do on troop trips, why we ask for certain gear on gear checks, and why we run the program the way we do. It is a chance for parents to experience the troop in a way their kid does, and go on vacation for a weekend!
This trip will be highly modular. We plan to take parents on the standard Allegheny Trip, but we don't want to scare away parents because they feel like they won't be up to the challenge of a weekend of backpacking. We choose the Allegheny's because it has multiple places that you can camp along the way, so the distance covered each day will vary based on participants liking.
For those who don't know, the standard Allegheny trip is a trip to the Minister Creek area in the Allegheny's. There is a very nice loop there, with rock piles to play on, campsites to camp at, and a very beautiful overlook to spend some time at on the final day. Minister Creek is a place that all PLC members are very familiar with, and so a great place to introduce scouts to backpacking. This is why we drive all 5 hours to get here.
We are currently trying to get an approximate number of parents that will be coming on this trip. We will be able to give more information about the trip when we have an approximate number of participants. If you're interested or have questions contact either the trip leader or adult field leader (contact information on the right. They will be happy to answer any questions or record your interest. We hope to see you out there.
