Bike Night #2
We will be meeting tonight at Olson Park at 7:00pm, no matter what the weather is. Scouts should bring their bikes in case we get to go biking. However, if we don't go biking we will still be meeting. If we don't go biking we will learn about biking repair and maintenance. You will learn how to adjust your brakes so that they are tight, and how to make sure that your gears all shift well. After that you will learn about trail etiquette. This may seem boring, but it is essential to mountain biking because of the speeds at which people can be traveling. (And trust me, your patrol leader can make good examples of bad trail etiquette that can be very enjoyable to act out.) After that we will hopefully break out the fake blood and practice first aid on common biking injuries, such as abrasions and object in the eye.
Alright, our second night of biking at Olson Park. Sorry that the first one got rained out. At this meeting patrols will be biking around Olson Park while doing their best not to run into each other. Olson Park is unique because of the tons of bike trails that they managed to cram into such a small area, and the wide range of ability levels on these trails. It allows us to put all patrols biking on different trails without the patrols constantly meeting each other, and therefore is an ideal spot for the first night of biking to shake out all the problems on real trails while keeping the patrols contained in a small area.
This is the part of the biking sequence when we actually start to ride our bikes! All the prep work is for this. Ann Arbor offers all different types of terrain, which is great to learn on. Patrol leaders will be taking guys out biking on the trails. They will help them get up to speed for the upcoming trip. These bike nights are necessary for the biking trip coming up. We can not safely take you biking with us if we have never seen you bike before. It is sure to be a pleasure for all, new to biking or experienced, so come out with us. The more biking with us you do, the more prepared you will be for the upcoming trip, and the cooler things we can do on that trip.
