Guess what time it is? Yes, that's right kids, it's time for the annual Troop 8 canoeing sequence. Remember, the good old times of intentionally trying to drown your fellow scouts, while simultaneously trying your best to keep your canoe upright? Yes. We will be back at Argo (the canoe livery, not the movie) to relive the fun from all of the previous years. For all of the less observant scouts, Argo Canoe Livery is in Ann Arbor (your home town) on the beautiful (*cough*cough) Huron River.
We will be learning/practicing many of the basic canoe strokes such as the front stroke, backstroke, J-stroke, draw stroke and the pry stroke, along with some more complicated skills such as overturning a flipped canoe. You will be in the water quite often (not always intentionally) so you will need to bring clothes that can get wet(non-cotton). No need to worry if you are a non-swimmer, we will all be wearing lifejackets. It is also very easy to get dehydrated when we are on the river, so you should make sure to bring a water bottle, preferably one which can somehow attach to the boat to avoid it floating off.
After a day on the river, we will retire to a campsite at Hudson Mills Metro Park. All food and shelter is provided! We will take your kid to Hudson Mills from canoeing; however, due to the shortage of scouters able to give rides, PLEASE PICK YOUR KID UP FROM HUDSON MILLS.
Please bring overnight gear (sleeping bag + pad) as well as raingear, headlamp, water, sunscreen, and clothes for the river.
