Alleghenies Backpacking

We will be going to the mighty Allegheny National Forest.  More specifically we will head to the Minister Creek trail in central Pensylvania.  The Alleghenies are awesome because there are huge piles of boulders all over the place.  We will hike the 7 mile Minister Creek loop which crosses paths with about 4 major Rock piles.  Every couple of miles there is a Rock Pile where you can climb up and explore caves in the spaces between the rocks.

This trip is cool because you escape the noise of cars and the impact of humans to become one with nature.  The trails are beautiful. Trust me, you will have a good time.  You and your Patrol will have a blast exploring this amazing wilderness area.  On the first night of the trip you will sleep in a clearing that used to be a train turtable.  All that is left there is a concrete shack and lots of scrap metal. On the second night you will camp in the are where three creeks intersect  including multiple stream-crossings, or perhaps at a peak overlooking the entire valley, if your patrol is feeling ambitious.

It is important that you have the right gear for this trip, so that it fun and safe.  It will be miserable if you have a pair of hiking boots that are too small or you forgot your raincoat.  To solve this problem we have a gear-check on the Tuesday before this trip.  If you don't come to the gear-check then you can't come on the trip, unless you set up a private meeting with your patrol leader.
